Time Slow Down!!!!

I can’t believe it’s been two weeks since I last posted. Between the exploring, the partying, weekend travels along the Great Ocean Road, and class (yes, they finally started on February 28), time is flying past quicker than I want it too.

Since Melbourne Welcome, here’s what I’ve been upto:
Party, Party, Party!
The past 2 weeks have been filled with tons of ragers. Besides getting in trouble by RMIT Village for having a party in my room (of course this would happen to me), there has been a highlighter party at Turf, the MUSEX party at Turf, two epic nights of celebrating Joe’s 21st, and many nights of random pub crawls and bar hopping. In fact, later today I will be embarking on a 4 hour pub crawl with tons of other UniMelb students.
Now this seems like a ton of drinking (well maybe not for me), but with all this going out and lack of “house parties/frat parties” in the US, money can be spent very quickly. Pregaming with the goon (boxed wine) is essential and gets the night going pretty quickly. From there on, I've just been getting pitchers at the pub and splitting with one other person. This way you only spend around $5 to $10 at the pub/club on drinks.
I know all of you want funny stories but surprisingly I don’t have too many (as of yet). But here’s one: so at one of the parties held at Turf (like the 9-0 for you SC kids but way better with its outdoor patio), I wanted to leave by 10:15pm because I felt like it was 2am (maybe due to having a pitcher chugging contest with my friend Caroline). Even though RMIT Village is literally right next door, I didn’t want to go alone and tried to bribe Lauren with brie grilled cheese and tomato soup. When this failed, I apparently gave up and went home. When I woke up the next morning, my roommate told me he found a fully made Panini on the kitchen counter that wasn’t eaten. So apparently, I had made food and then never ate it. FML

Being Chef Boyardees
With Melbourne Welcome ending and us getting sick of spending tons of money to eat out, Mike and I have starting making epic dinners. Our specialty thus far has been grilled chicken kebabs with onion, potato, and green peppers. We also make some mean burgers and pasta with meat sauce.
If we end up making a ton, we end up inviting our friends as long as they contribute. During our first kebab dinner, Lauren joined us and brought ice cream, carmelized bananas, and timtams. So GOOOD!
sooooo goood

Oh yeah, I also ate kangaroo, emu, and croc at the night market. It was delicious.
Wait, this isn’t a 6 month vacation?
So O-Week was last week and was pretty useless. Exchange/Study abroad kids were lumped together with freshman so most of the speeches and sessions were exactly what we heard frosh year at SC…”get involved”, “join all the clubs”, “find a passion and go for it”. The only fun part of the week was going to the clubs and societies (like the Involvement Fair) where Mike, Lauren, and I signed up for the Pet Lovers Club…you essentially play with dogs and puppies all day and raise funds for animal shelters...it's going to be amazing!
Classes started this past Monday, and so far it’s been ok. One of my elective classes that I thought was a censorship class is more art history based so I’m switching out of it to Media and Society. My other elective class is Australia Now, about the history of OZ and its contemporary issues - even though the prof is a bit dry, it's going to be really interesting to learn the history/culture of Australia. Then I have 2 business classes (one marketing and one management class) – My marketing class (Consumer Behavior) seems awesome because our professor is kind of quirky and funny. I haven't had my management class (Managing Entrepreneurship and Innovation) yet, but it is the business class I was most looking forward to.
But after 2 or so months of not having school, it does feel weird to get back into the grind of going to class, doing hw, studying, etc.
Road trip!
So with O-Week being pretty pointless and a failed Brighton Beach attempt on Feb. 20 (pics below), Mike and I wanted to do something fun for the weekend before classes started. We got a group of our friends (10 of us in total), rented 2 cars, and headed out to the Great Ocean Road (like the PCH for all of you CA people) and the Grampians for some sight seeing and outdoor funtivities.
Let me say that this trip was never boring – driving on the left side of the road, having no clue where we were going, listening to the new Kanye cd 3 times (as the radio sucked), seeing wild koalas, emus, and kangaroos, dealing with an hour long detour/dirt roads in the Grampians due to roads washed out by rainfall, and having a rivalry with the other car.

Some stops along the Road trip included:
Viewpoint near Torquay - start of Great Ocean Road
Cool house on Great Ocean Road
We stopped to look at the koalas
  Koala eating
  at the 12 Apostles
  Roadtrip crew at 12 Apostles
(George, Christian, Chris, Becca, Rose, Lauren, Mike, me, Joe, Alex)
Loch Ard Gorge - one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been to
We decided to explore the cave
Another part of the gorge - the guys hopped the fence to get out on the cliff
  View from the cliff
On the road to the Grampians
  EMU!EMU!EMU!EMU!
(I screamed Emu at the top of my lungs and gave my entire car a heart attack and good laugh)
We may have gotten lost due to the stupid detour but it led us to the Roo's
I spotted the roo's and yelled ROO!ROO!ROO this time.
(I became the official animal finder in the car)
Roo's right behind our hostel in Halls Gap
  Kookaburra
  Hiking in the Grampians
  Halfway to the top!

Some music/funny videos to check out:
As I mentioned, we listened to Kanye and some interesting music. We also recounted funny videos we have seen and had a good laugh. Hope you like them:
My favorite song from Kanye's album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N29WWcLmgzQ&feature=fvst
Weirdest song I've ever heard from a South African band - Alex surprisingly had heard it already: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cegdR0GiJl4
Huge Aussie song that we heard a lot - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kK42LZqO0wA
Video from my friend Brian at home but we had a good laugh about this on the trip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r7wHMg5Yjg
From Lauren - I've never heard of Rachel Zoe but Lauren's impressions were spot on to the people in the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FuACXNj6WU

Signs
Throughout the past few weeks, I’ve also encounter some really funny signs along my travels. Enjoy.
Um, so moral of the story: don't drink and boat
It's not guaranteed I will die...I hopped the barricade and was fine =]
